ANOTHER DISASTER!
It happened after 911 - it happened after the Tsunami - and it's happening again!
Everyone is glued to the media to see the latest devastation of the world. Things seem to be getting worse and worse and it's all anyone can talk about. What is it about human nature that makes us obsessive over tragedy and almost "get off" on feeling bad for the victims? I don't think people really feel better about themselves by seeing people in worse scenarios; I know I certainly don't - yet at the same time I can't stop watching the news to find out what has happened.
When returning to the States on AIR FORCE ONE, President Bush expressed genuine surprise when reporters asked him about the large protests that his visit to Argentina had sparked.
"What protests?" he asked.
Reporters explained out to him that they were referring to the thousands of people who swarmed the streets of Mar Del Plata on Friday to air their protest against the Bush administration policies.
"Um ..Yes, I know about the thousands in the streets", he said, "I saw footage of it on my daily news DVD. My staff told me those were all people who were glad and honoured to see me and were expressing their support of our war on terror and freeing of oppressed people. Why would people want to protest about me?"
The reporters just shook their heads and continued with their card games for the duration of the flight back to the United States....
...And we worry about the natural disasters happening in the world today. What about the man made ones!!
